Macau's been hit by a dramatic bout of wild rains for the past week, including a twister spinning in the distance over the mountains in nearby Zhuhai.

Working overseas and being paid in foreign currency means that exchange is a big part of my life, and it is a pain because of the weak US dollar which in turn makes the HK dollar super weak as well against the strong Singapore dollar. It's as though I've been taking a pay cut for the past few months in SGD terms. But that part will be over soon. In a week, in fact, thankfully.

What I discovered and frustrated me today was the lack of foreign currencies for exchange in Macau. I spent over an hour walking into all the banks and a couple of casinos, only to be greeted by "Sorry, we don't have pounds or euros today...". I was just stunned speechless -- isn't this a tourism town? Why aren't there other currencies available apart from HKD, Macau Patacas and USD?

My first birthday cake this year, shared with Juan, for her belated and my pre birthday. One candle is good; I've stopped counting.
